The Claims We'll Never Forget:
Two Real Stories That Show Why Coverage Matters

Insurance is one of those purchases you hope you never have to use.

Most days, nothing happens. Life goes on, your premiums get paid, and your policy sits quietly in the background.

Then something unexpected happens.

Over the years, we’ve helped clients through everything from major storms to auto accidents. While every claim is different, there are a few that stick with us—not because they’re dramatic, but because they highlight the value of having the right coverage before you need it.

Here are two that we’ll never forget.

A $4,300 Plumbing Problem That Became a $20,000 Repair

One of our longtime clients called us about what seemed like a straightforward plumbing issue.

She had already received an estimate for about $4,300 and planned to pay for the repair herself.

Unfortunately, the problem continued to get worse.

After additional investigation, contractors discovered the real culprit: a broken underground water service line that had been damaged by tree roots.

The repair estimate jumped from a manageable expense to nearly $20,000.

Fortunately, when we built her homeowners policy, we recommended adding Buried Utility Line (Service Line) Coverage.

That optional endorsement provided $25,000 of protection, covering the repair and preventing a major financial setback.

It’s a perfect example of why we encourage homeowners to look beyond the basic policy.

For many homeowners, adding service line coverage costs only a small amount each year—but it can protect against repairs that aren’t covered under a standard homeowners policy.

When GAP Coverage Made All the Difference

Not every unforgettable claim involves a home.

Recently, one of our auto insurance clients was involved in an accident that resulted in their vehicle being declared a total loss.

There was just one problem.

The vehicle’s actual cash value was less than the remaining balance on the loan.

Without additional protection, the client would have been responsible for paying thousands of dollars out of pocket for a car they no longer owned.

Thankfully, we had previously recommended adding GAP coverage to the policy.

Instead of being left with a balance after the insurance settlement, the remaining loan amount was covered.

The client was incredibly grateful—and relieved.

It’s another reminder that optional coverages often become the most valuable parts of a policy when life takes an unexpected turn.

Optional Doesn't Mean Unimportant

Many of the coverages we recommend aren’t required by law or by your mortgage lender.

That doesn’t mean they’re unnecessary.

Depending on your situation, endorsements like:

  • Service Line Coverage
  • Water Backup Coverage
  • Personal Cyber Protection
  • Identity Theft Coverage
  • GAP Coverage
  • Higher Liability Limits

can provide protection against some of the most expensive and unexpected claims homeowners and drivers face.

The right policy isn’t always the cheapest policy.

It’s the one that’s built around your life, your risks, and your goals.

Why Working With an Advisor Matters

Buying insurance online has never been easier.

Understanding what you’re actually buying is a different story.

Our role isn’t simply to compare prices. It’s to explain your options, identify potential gaps in coverage, and help you make informed decisions before a claim ever happens.

Because once something goes wrong, it’s too late to add the coverage you wish you had.

Raise Your Expectations

Insurance shouldn’t be about finding the lowest premium—it should be about making sure you’re protected when life doesn’t go according to plan.

If you’d like a second opinion on your current home or auto insurance, we’re happy to review your coverage, answer your questions, and help you understand what’s included—and what’s not.

Raise Your Expectations.

Not sure if your current coverage is enough?

We’ll review your home, auto, or umbrella policy, explain any gaps, and help you understand your options—without the pressure.
